What is
The Child Life and Creative Arts Therapy Department?

The Department helps young patients cope with their fears and anxieties by offering therapeutic activities tailored to meet their social, emotional and educational needs. Familiar experiences such as play, art, school and socializing with peers are offered to help patients understand and copy more effectively with the often overwhelming world of the hospital.

The Zone welcomes families prior to surgery

Child Life staff provide pediatric patients, siblings and families with play and educational interventions while they await surgery in The Zone area designated exclusively this purpose. It is a toy-filled space lined with comfortable seating, and has been operational since July 2012, hosting patients of all ages, infants to young adults.

StoryCorps captures your stories

Child Life staff trained to serve as StoryCorps Legacy project facilitators, recording and preserving your stories. It is an opportunity to capture a special memory or moment with family, a friend, or Mount Sinai staff person. Each conversation is recorded on a free CD. Listen to one conversation where a teenage girl spoke with her mother about her new heart.

Families have shared how empowered and grateful they are to have the opportunity to share their story and connect in a powerful way with each other.

Contact Lori Lerma at 212-241-6975 or lori.lerma@mountsinai.org to schedule your interview today!

Consider pediatric patients in your holiday and New Year's giving
As we approach the upcoming 2013 holiday season, please consider including our pediatric patients at the Mount Sinai Kravis Children's Hospital in your gift-giving.

The most direct way to make a toy donation to our department is through the Starlight Children's Foundation Hospital's Wish List program. Also check out our Amazon wish list. For funding opportunities to support staff and innovative programming, please contact Diane Rode at 212-241-8024 or diane.rode@mountsinai.org.
